Dear Colleagues,
Contaminants in wastewater are of continuous environmental concern. Wastewater treatment is of raising significance due to the rapid increase in the human population. Moreover, the demand for innovative treatment techniques and strategies has arisen because of the establishment and operation of rigorous guidelines of wastewater reuse and discharge to the environment. Throughout time, researchers have focused their attention on the area of bioremediation as an important environmental tool. Bioremediation (use of plants, microorganisms, and plant–microorganism association) is considered a promising alternative in the wastewater treatment field. This technology is ecofriendly, low-cost, and an efficient biological process for reducing, degrading, modifying, eliminating, immobilizing, detoxifying, mineralizing, or transforming pollutants to a non-harmful or nontoxic state.
In this Special Issue, we invite submissions of original articles focusing on the bioremediation of wastewater contaminants, focusing on its innovations and challenges. Thus, topics addressed in this Special Issue will include, but are not limited to, variables involved in the bioremediation processes, and exploring the development of technology for monitoring and treatment, addressing recent advances and new ideas in the perspective of efficient process (at nano, pilot and real scale). Survey papers and reviews are also welcomed.
