Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, European and American high-energy physics communities have directed a big effort to draw new strategies for the future of particle physics. The European Committee for Future Accelerator Physics (ECFA) and the Astroparticle Physics European Consortium (APPEC) have decided to stimulate and support wide long-term detector R&D programs to fulfill the requirements driven by their research horizons. Also, the U.S. community followed a parallel path with the CPAD, the Coordinating Panel for Advanced Detectors, with its mission to promote, coordinate, and assist in the research and development of instrumentation and detectors for high-energy physics experiments. The requirements deriving from the future programs of high-energy physics research are enlarging their borders from an improved sensitivity for rare event searches to high-efficiency and resolution performances, even if coping with increasing rates of incoming particles for high-luminosity facilities. This represents a remarkable challenge for the development of a new generation of particle detectors that can take advantage of leading technological development. This Special Issue aims to promote outstanding research concerning all aspects of particle detection for high-energy physics, both from astronomical- and accelerator-induced collisions, focusing on state-of-the-art progress, developments, and new trends.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Solid state and tracking detector;
  • Photodetectors and particle identification techniques;
  • Resistive and micropattern gaseous detectors;
  • Liquid noble elements detectors;
  • Calorimetry and energy measurements;
  • Fast timing detectors;
  • Quantum sensors and devices;
  • Electronics for readout and acquisition of particle detectors.

Manuscript Submission Information

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
