Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Nanotechnology is the manipulation and utilization of matter at the nanoscale, where novel physical, chemical, and biological properties emerge. Nanotechnology has the potential to revolutionize bioengineering, which is the application of engineering principles and methods to biological systems and problems. This Special Issue highlights some of the current and emerging nanotechnology applications in bioengineering, such as (1) nanomaterials and nanodevices for biosensing, imaging, diagnosis, and therapy; (2) nanobiomimetics and nanobiointerfaces for tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and biocompatibility; and (3) nanosystems and nanorobotics for drug delivery, gene therapy, and nanosurgery. This Special Issue also identifies some of the challenges and limitations of nanotechnology in bioengineering, such as (1) the complexity and diversity of biological systems and environments; (2) the safety and toxicity of nanomaterials and nanodevices; and (3) the ethical and social implications of nanotechnology in bioengineering. This Special Issue concludes by proposing future directions and opportunities for the integration of nanotechnology in bioengineering, such as (1) developing smart and adaptive nanomaterials and nanodevices; (2) exploring the synergy and integration of nanotechnology and biotechnology; and (3) fostering interdisciplinary and collaborative research and education in nanotechnology and bioengineering.
This Special Issue aims to compile the most recent advances in the application of nanotechnology in bioengineering, with a particular focus on its promising applications in developing new drug formulations and enhancing drug delivery.
Hence, we cordially invite researchers to disclose original research work or review manuscripts that present up-to-date data on the application of nanotechnology in bioengineering.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Bioengineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
