Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Brain tumors are classified into malignant and non-malignant types, with non-malignant tumors having an incidence rate 2.5 times higher than malignant brain tumors, according to The Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States. The therapeutic goals for brain tumors are predominantly determined by a comprehensive consideration of tumor location, pathology, response to non-surgical therapies, and patient conditions.
Surgical resection is often the first therapeutic approach, aiming for maximally safe resection of both non-malignant and malignant brain tumors. Advanced neurosurgical techniques and surgical adjuncts are used to achieve the goal of onco-functional balance, including intraoperative functional mapping and identification of malignant tumor cells via fluorescence or real-time histological identification. Beyond the surgical suite, adjuvant therapies are also necessary for brain malignancies. Radiation therapy remains the major adjuvant modality due to the blood–brain barrier. However, the introduction of transcranial focused ultrasound for blood–brain barrier opening expands therapeutic opportunities for various large molecular drugs.
On the other hand, advancements in diagnostic technologies have revolutionized brain tumor classification based on molecular markers. Genomic alterations in brain tumors not only determine diagnosis and grading but also provide opportunities for targeted therapy in the era of precision medicine.
For this Special Issue, we invite clinical studies focusing on the following:
- Neurosurgical advancements in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring or tumor identification.
- Therapeutic approaches in brain tumor management, including but not limited to radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or immune therapy.
- Novel therapeutic approaches to overcome the limitations of current modalities in both non-malignant and malignant brain tumors.
Authors are invited to submit original research and review articles.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomedicines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
