Animal Basic Research

A section of Clocks & Sleep (ISSN 2624-5175).

Section Information

This section of Clocks & Sleep aims to enable the rapid publication of contributions on all aspects of basic animal research related to clocks and sleep, ranging from basic research to studies at the molecular, physiological and behavioral level. We welcome studies on the molecular mechanisms, metabolism, physiology, neurobiology and immunology. Human disease-related animal models using cellular, molecular, biological, chemical and immunological approaches are also welcome. Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • The molecular and cellular mechanism of clocks and sleep;
  • Systems approaches in chronobiology and sleep;
  • In vitro and in vivo aspects of circadian rhythmicity and sleep;
  • Impact and role of biological rhythms in health and disease;
  • Hormonal and metabolic rhythms;
  • Behavioral performance and rhythms;
  • Neuroanatomy and neurobiology of biological rhythms and sleep;
  • Control of gene expression by clock proteins;
  • Mechanisms of photoreception and photoentrainment;
  • Information exchange between clock cells;
  • Hibernation and migration;
  • Rhythms and depression;
  • Immune system, clock and sleep;
  • Genetics of clocks and sleep.
