Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Prior to the Global Financial Crisis, East Asia was the fastest-growing and most dynamic region at a global level, thanks in particular to the entry of China into the WTO and the associated massive expansion in globalization (trade networks). Over the last decade, massive changes have taken place in East Asia, including global warming, aging, innovation (digital technologies, Fintech, etc.), quantitative easing, ‘trade wars’, energy and commodity supply issues, the COVID-19 pandemic, and steps towards deglobalization. Some of these changes or shocks will have temporary effects while others will persist for decades.
These major developments have important implications for trade and financial relationships, as well as for economic, financial and monetary policies of East Asian economies. The changing role of China is another cross-cutting development which, by the sheer weight of its economy, can transform the trade and financial landscape, not only in the region but also at a global level.
This Special Issue will welcome submissions dealing with one or several of the abovementioned developments both at a country level and in a comparative perspective across East Asia.
