Dear Colleagues,
When evolving to 6G networks, mobile wireless networking will transform from “connecting things” to “connecting intelligence”. To adapt to this tread, wireless devices need to not only be able to conduct efficient, robust communications but also complete complex services for smart applications. However, current wireless networks are trapped in delivering the massive number of signals while assuring their accuracy, but the limited resources block this evolution. Big data technology is a persistently developing paradigm to process the massive number of signals, which motivates the network’s functions shifting from “transmit every bit” to “what and how to transmit”. In particular, big data technology will allow intelligent devices to preprocess information according to the environment and service requirements and forward critical information more efficiently and accurately, which can then support complicated artificial intelligence tasks such as virtual reality, augmented reality, autonomous driving, etc. However, there are still many fundamental problems that need to be solved to accommodate big data processing and communications towards a 6G network.
Thus, this Special Issue will seek to bring together researchers to promote research and development efforts as well as results aiming to overcome the major challenges that pertain to related cutting-edge research topics. Suitable topics for this issue include but are not limited to the following areas:
- Big data processing and transmissions over wireless networks;
- Machine learning in big data communications;
- Big-data-based optimization in 6G networks;
- Big data for intelligent wireless communications;
- Big-data-aided high-frequency band communications in wireless networks;
- Big-data-aided design at PHY, MAC, network, and transport layers;

- Big data for optical wireless communications;
- Big data for satellite and UAV-enabled wireless communications;
- Information theory of big data communications;
- Coding and signal processing for big data communications;

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
