Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid advancement of technology has ushered in an era where intelligent systems are becoming increasingly integral to various aspects of our lives. From autonomous vehicles to smart homes, from industrial automation to healthcare diagnostics, intelligent systems are revolutionizing how we interact with and understand the world around us. As these systems become more complex and ubiquitous, there is a growing need for innovative design approaches and novel engineering applications to ensure their efficiency, reliability, and safety.

The Special Issue on "Intelligent Systems Design and Engineering Applications" for the International Conference on Intelligent Systems Design and Engineering Applications (ISDEA) (https://www.isdea.org/) aims to explore cutting-edge research and practical developments in this critical field. This issue will serve as a platform for researchers, engineers, and practitioners to share their latest findings, methodologies, and applications in the design and implementation of intelligent systems.

Intelligent systems encompass a wide range of technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and cognitive computing. These systems are characterized by their ability to perceive, learn, reason, and interact with their environment in ways that mimic or surpass human capabilities. The design and engineering of such systems present unique challenges that require interdisciplinary approaches, combining expertise from computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, cognitive science, and other related fields.

The ISDEA conference provides an ideal forum for discussing the latest advancements in this rapidly evolving domain. This Special Issue will primarily feature extended versions of selected papers presented at the ISDEA conference. However, we also welcome high-quality submissions from researchers and practitioners who have not presented at the conference but are working on relevant topics.

This Special Issue aims to address various aspects of intelligent systems design and engineering applications, including but not limited to the following:

  1. Novel architectures for intelligent systems;
  2. Machine learning algorithms for real-time decision making;
  3. Cognitive computing models and applications;
  4. Robotic systems and human–robot interaction;
  5. Natural language processing and understanding;
  6. Computer vision and image processing techniques;
  7. Intelligent control systems and automation;
  8. Optimization algorithms for complex systems;
  9. Intelligent sensors and sensor networks;
  10. Big data analytics for intelligent systems;
  11. Edge computing and distributed intelligence;
  12. Explainable AI and interpretable machine learning models;
  13. Ethical considerations in intelligent systems design;
  14. Security and privacy in intelligent systems;
  15. Application-specific intelligent systems (e.g., healthcare, transportation, manufacturing).

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
