Extended Reality (XR), encompassing virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), is rapidly evolving, transforming many fields beyond traditional entertainment applications. This Special Issue of the scientific journal aims to explore the latest advancements and future directions of XR development and their impact on diverse areas such as education, healthcare, industry, architecture, art, and more. We invite researchers and practitioners to share their findings, analyses, and case studies that demonstrate how XR is revolutionizing non-entertainment sectors, bringing new opportunities and challenges.
Potential article topics:
- XR in Education: Innovative teaching and learning methods utilizing virtual and augmented reality.
- Medical Applications of XR: New diagnostic, therapeutic, and training tools in healthcare.
- XR in Industry: Optimizing production and logistics processes with VR and AR applications.
- Architecture and Urban Planning: Designing and planning urban spaces using XR technologies.
- Art and Culture: New forms of artistic expression and cultural interactions enabled by XR.
- Crisis Management and Emergency Services Training: Utilizing XR for realistic simulations and training.
- Applications in Commerce and Marketing: How XR is transforming consumer experiences and marketing strategies.
- XR in Psychotherapy: New therapeutic approaches and techniques supporting mental health.
- Sports and Recreation: Integrating XR in sports training and physical recreation.
- The Future of Work: The impact of XR on remote collaboration and virtual work environments.
We invite the submission of research articles, review papers, and case studies showcasing the wide range of XR applications in non-entertainment contexts. Interdisciplinary approaches and international collaborations that highlight the potential and challenges of extended reality across various fields are especially welcome.
