Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The human body contains an abundance of degrees of freedom that must be coordinated and managed to produce coherent motor skills. The sensorimotor system responsible for movement control comprises a distributed sensory network, sensory and motor neurons, and a highly redundant network of muscle actuators. Groups of muscles are organized into motor units and synergistically activated by groups of motor neurons. The movement commands originate in the motor cortex and are processed in the neural networks before passing on to the motor neurons. The motor tasks are regulated by proprioceptive feedback, processed through the spinal neurons, brain stem, and higher centers. The simple task of maintaining a stance conceals incessant signal processing and real-time control in the sensorimotor apparatus. In the last century extensive research on the physiological aspects of motor control has been performed. However, the signal processing aspects of the neural mechanisms have not been fully explored. The aim of this special issue is to gather latest research elucidating signal processing aspects of motor control in humans.

Information is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
