Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the introduction of new drugs for the treatment of obesity that have comparable results to bariatric surgery for weight loss, there is a need to rethink procedures, guidelines, and models of intervention. New approaches may impact obesity-related metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, and may have an overall impact on health, advising a broader reflexion than just the weight loss alone. Lifestyle-change interventions, including physical activity and exercise, have been considered the base of the pyramid for obesity management and treatment for many years. On the verge of newly avaiable tools for the treatment and management of obesity, and considreing that that physical activity and exercise have shown consistently moderate results for weight loss, new models are being suggested for the treatment of obesity, underscoring psychological treatment, pharmacological treatment, and surgery as the pillars for obesity treatment. Nevertheless, lifestyle interventions have shown quality of life and health-related benefits, regardless of weight loss, in both obesity and diabetes management. Lifestyle interventions, particularly those including exercise, have been shown to be superior to alternatives, including to pharmacological therapy, in preventing the progression of prediabetes to diabetes. In this context, the role of lifestyle approaches for the management of obesity and diabetes, particularly that of physical activity and exercise, needs to be reassessed in order to warrant the best benefits and outcomes for the population. The aim of this Special Issue is to publish scientific articles related to the latest scientific evidence available on Clinical Insights into Exercise, Obesity, and Diabetes. We invite our colleagues to submit papers on these topics in this Special Issue.

The following formats are accepted in this Special Issue: reliability studies, validity studies, correlational studies, observational studies, study protocols, longitudinal studies, cross-sectional studies, case reports, qualitative studies, studies with discourse analysis, bibliometric reviews, narrative reviews, scoping reviews, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
