Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Membrane separation is a key component of sustainable environmental and energy applications, particularly in gas separation for large-scale energy and the oil and gas industries, chemical separations, and water desalination and purification. They can also purify ions, gas, water, and molecules for use in various industries and emission control. These technologies are currently progressing from laboratory-scale research to industrial implementation.
The purpose of this Special Issue is to publish state-of-the-art research studies that gather current knowledge and pressing questions about membrane separation for gas and water treatment. This Special Issue will focus on the membrane fabrication methods, characterization techniques, simulations, and membrane scale-up approaches for broader applications in the field. The topics for VSI include, but are not limited to:
- Pressure-driven processes for water and gas treatment
- Electro-driven membrane processes
- Emerging membrane processes (membrane contactors, pervaporation and forward osmosis)
- Polymeric and inorganic membranes
- Membrane fouling and cleaning

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Membranes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
