Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Halloysite is a clay mineral in the kaolin group, with a spiral-shaped tubular crystal morphology. Its particularity is based in its structure and charges, as the inner part of the nanoparticles is positive, while the outer one is negative. Because of its abundant nature and unique characteristics, halloysite, whether in its pure or modified form, can be used in various applications due to its potential interactions with a wide range of molecules. Thus, halloysite has the potential to be used in pharmaceutical applications mainly as a drug carrier, in materials science as the base for the preparation of nanocomposites, in soil and water decontamination as a sorbent material for various contaminants, and in other environmental and non-environmental fields. This Special Issue will investigate current research advancements in halloysite clay mineral with a focus on its final applicability in various fields proved by experimental or/and theoretical studies.
The topics covered by this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Novel processes for halloysite-based nanocomposite preparation.;
- Pure halloysite or halloysite-based nanocomposites for targeted drug delivery;
- Halloysite-based nanocomposites for photocatalytic applications;
- Halloysite-based nanocomposites for cosmetics;
- Pure or modified halloysite for water and soil decontamination;
- Molecular simulations of halloysite-based complexes;
- Halloysites for environmental nanotechnologies
We encourage the submission of research articles, reviews, case studies, commentaries, and technical notes that advance knowledge in the field of applied mineralogy, with a particular focus on “Advances in Halloysite Clay Mineral and its Applications”. By disseminating cutting-edge research findings and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to enhance the collective knowledge base and support the applications of halloysite in real scale in several sectors.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Minerals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
