Dear Colleagues,
More than 35 years after the “cascade” synthesis of the first dendrimer, the Newcome’s “arborol” (J. Org. Chem. 1985, 50, 2003–2004), the tremendous, widespread development of this science covers today almost all facets of applied macromolecular chemistry, from exotic organic materials to pharmaceutical carriers, based on new synthetic and structural strategic concepts. As key building-blocks, dendrons containing tandem units of type p-donors, H-bond donors, organic anions, etc. vs. their corresponding p-acceptors, H-bond acceptors, organic cations, and innovative combination thereof have become an exciting and challenging target in the field. Participants of the symposium, as well as all researchers working in the field, are cordially invited to contribute original research papers or reviews to this Special Issue of Molecules, which report on the design, synthesis, structure, and applications of novel dendritic candidates containing organic donor vs. acceptor tandems in dendrimer elaboration.
