Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for this Special Issue, entitled “Naturally Inspired Molecules as Inhibitors in Drug Discovery (2nd Edition)”. It follows the previously successful topic, “Naturally Inspired Molecules as Inhibitors in Drug Discovery”, which was closed on 30 September 2024 and included nine published papers.

Natural products (NPs) have long been regarded as precious sources of inspiration for drug design efforts. Their structural diversity and broad range of molecular scaffolds offer favourable ligand–protein binding motifs, thus enabling the modulation of different cellular pathways and interactions with selected targets. Moreover, their “privileged structures” are considered valuable chemical platforms that can be exploited for the design of structurally related analogues, with the aim of performing structure–activity relationship (SAR) studies, understanding the molecular basis of their mechanisms of action, and expanding their biological profile. This Special Issue aims to contribute to novel advancements in the field of synthetic bioactive molecules related to NPs, with a particular focus on compounds acting as inhibitors or modulators of specific enzymes or signalling pathways. Original articles, as well as reviews regarding studies on naturally inspired compounds, are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
