Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

People's safety is a very broad issue. This is not just about health. The safety of people can be understood as the security of owned and processed information. A loss of such information may affect people’s well-being, health, and also lives. In extreme cases, this can lead to a deep mental breakdown and even to suicide. Information safety and the possibility of its loss is related to, among others, electromagnetic emissions. Very often, such emissions have the characteristics of processed information. In this case, these kinds of emissions are called "sensitive emissions", "valuable emissions", or "compromising emissions". Therefore, they can be used for the non-invasive acquisition of data, which in lot of cases, determines human safety. In particular, this applies to graphic data displayed on computer screens or printed by laser printers. So, we can consider human safety in regards to the safety of data processed electronically.

New technologies make the phenomenon of electromagnetic information penetration very common. This is why many scientific units are working on methods that, on the one hand effectively counteract this phenomenon, and on the other hand, make the acquisition of such data easier.

Electromagnetic weapons are another important element of human safety associated with electromagnetic emissions. This type of weapon can be used to destroy enemy electronic devices. Unfortunately, it is used for preventive actions too. In such cases the weapon is targeted directly at people. The effect of using such weapons is primarily burns. However, other symptoms may appear, which over time threaten human life.

This Special Issue focuses on a number of carefully selected contemporary issues on human safety and information safety that can influence health, life, and a man's existence in the electromagnetic environment.

The objective is to rapidly disseminate the latest research and knowledge in this important area of the electromagnetic environment. The following areas are of particular interest:

  • information safety
  • electromagnetic emissions
  • non-invasive data acquisition
  • electromagnetic eavesdropping
  • protection of information
  • electromagnetic weapon
  • beam weapon (directed energy weapon)

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Safety is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
