Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce a Special Issue focusing on “Advances in Intelligent and Sustainable Transportation Through Multidisciplinary Approaches”, which aims to explore the latest developments, challenges, and innovative solutions in the field of intelligent and sustainable transportation, emphasizing the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in advancing the field.
The transportation sector is undergoing a transformative phase driven by technological advancements, environmental concerns, and the need for sustainable practices. This Special Issue seeks high-quality research papers, reviews, and case studies that address the integration of intelligent systems and sustainable practices within transportation. We invite contributions that explore, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs): the development and implementation of ITSs, including traffic management, autonomous vehicles, smart infrastructure, and IoT applications;
- Sustainable Transportation: strategies for reducing carbon emissions, promoting renewable energy usage, and enhancing the overall sustainability of transportation networks;
- Multimodal Transportation: the integration of various modes of transport to improve efficiency, reduce congestion, and enhance connectivity;
- Electric and Hybrid Vehicles: advancements in electric and hybrid vehicle technologies, charging infrastructure, and their impact on sustainability;
- Public Transportation: improvements and innovations in public transportation systems to make them more efficient, accessible, and environmentally friendly;
- Human Factors and Behavioral Studies: understanding the impact of human behavior and decision-making on transportation systems and how to design systems that cater to user needs;
- Transportation Safety: approaches to improving safety in transportation systems, including risk management, safety technologies, and policies that reduce accidents and enhance road safety.
The significance of this Special Issue lies in its potential to advance the understanding and implementation of intelligent and sustainable transportation solutions, which are crucial for addressing the environmental and social challenges of our time. By encouraging interdisciplinary dialog, this Special Issue aligns with the scope of Sustainability, a journal dedicated to promoting research that contributes to the development of sustainable solutions across various sectors, including transportation, to create a more sustainable and resilient future.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
