Dear Colleagues,
Functional materials with controlled dimensions (0 D, 1 D, 2 D) are attractive for a variety of applications regarding energy conversion and storage in view of their excellent features viz. high surface-to-volume ratio and short migration distance. The development of clean, renewable, highly efficient energy conversion strategies for replacing fossil fuels using micro and nanostructures is the need of the hour to confront environmental degradation and global warming.
The aim of this Special Issue is to present the effect of materials engineering on various applications of nano and microstructures for energy harvesting and storage. The energy conversion by means of piezoelectric, thermal, magnetic, magnetoelectric, pyroelectric, electro/magneto-caloric, chemical, and/or hybrid properties for sensors and actuators. The Special Issue also addressed issues of energy storage and finding effective means to improve their efficiencies. Examples include, but are not limited to, ferroelectric energy storage, electrode, and electrolyte materials for batteries, supercapacitors, solid-state hydrogen storage, nanostructured solar cells, and heterogeneous catalysts.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
