Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue titled "Building Resilient Supply Chains for Sustainable Construction" focuses on exploring the challenges and opportunities in creating robust supply chains that can withstand disruptions while advancing sustainability in construction supply chains. As construction projects grow in scale and complexity, the demand for sustainable materials and practices has increased, making supply chain resilience a crucial factor. This Issue will delve into how supply chains can adapt to environmental regulations, technological advancements, and unforeseen challenges, such as global pandemics or economic downturns, without compromising sustainability goals. The scope of the Issue will cover interdisciplinary research examining the innovative approaches to integrating resilience strategies, including but not limited to circular economy principles, digital construction technologies, and green procurement practices. It also aims to highlight case studies of successful sustainable supply chain models, discuss emerging trends, and address gaps in the existing literature. The relationship between resilient supply chains and sustainability is well documented, but the construction sector poses unique challenges due to its reliance on raw materials, logistics, and cross-border collaborations. This issue seeks to contribute to the ongoing academic discourse by presenting research that bridges these two critical aspects, offering valuable insights for academia, industry, and policymaking.
The construction sector is undergoing a transformative shift towards more sustainable practices, driven by growing environmental concerns, stricter regulations, and technological advancements. However, one of the most significant challenges facing the industry is the resilience of its supply chains, which are often vulnerable to disruptions caused by external factors like climate change, economic fluctuations, and global pandemics. Building resilient supply chains is crucial to ensuring the steady flow of materials and resources while maintaining sustainability commitments and minimising environmental impact.
This Special Issue aims to explore the intersection of supply chain resilience and sustainability in the construction sector. It aligns with the journal’s focus on advancing sustainable development practices by examining innovative strategies and solutions for strengthening resilience in construction supply chains. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, this Issue will provide insights into how digital technologies, circular economy principles, and green procurement can create supply chains that are both sustainable and adaptable to unforeseen challenges.
Themes for this Special Issue may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Circular economy approaches and sustainable material sourcing to enhance supply chain resilience;
- leveraging digital technologies and smart logistics for the building of resilient construction supply chains;
- vulnerability assessment and capability analysis of supply chains in construction projects;
- risk management strategies and enhancing supply chain robustness in the construction industry;
- policy and regulatory frameworks supporting resilient and sustainable construction practices;
- case studies on the successful integration of resilient and sustainable supply chains in construction projects.
We invite both original research articles and reviews that contribute to the growing body of knowledge in this vital area. We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.
Best Regards

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
