Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
To contribute to sustainable development, it is of utmost relevance to design inclusive policies and strategies for the tourism industry, allowing the participation of all in tourism activities. However, there are still several groups of our society that face several travel constraints, particularly persons with disabilities, the elderly and other people with other special needs. The promotion of a sustainable and inclusive society requires the adoption of strategies that promote the accessibility of tourism destinations, allowing all people, regardless of their health condition, to enjoy tourism experiences. Therefore, the development of accessible tourism contributes to the fight against discrimination, to promote more inclusive societies, to reduce inequalities and, consequently, to increase the well-being of people with special needs (PwSN). In this context, this Special Issue of the Sustainability journal opens an opportunity to disseminate and discuss relevant knowledge about the contribution of accessible tourism to increase the well-being of PwSN and to promote more sustainable and inclusive societies. Theoretical papers, state-of-art reviews, empirical papers and case studies addressing the role of accessible tourism to increase well-being of PwSN and to promote more sustainable and inclusive societies, are welcome.
The Special Issue seeks papers including (but not limited to) the following themes:
- Characteristics of the accessible tourism market;
- Travel constraints of people with disabilities and seniors;
