Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Outdoor lighting plays a significant role in our modern world, offering various benefits but also presenting challenges to sustainability. In recent years, outdoor lighting technologies have been undergoing a rapid transformation driven by advancements in energy efficiency, digital controls, and smart connectivity.

“Outdoor Lighting Innovations and the Sustainable Development Goals" is a Special Issue that explores the pivotal role of advanced outdoor lighting technologies and practices in contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This Special Issue invites theoretical and technical studies in the domain of innovative outdoor solutions that can have a positive impact on various aspects of sustainable development. Submitted manuscripts should address one or more of the following themes, although other relevant topics will also be considered:

  • Smart lighting systems and urban sustainability;
  • Light pollution and its mitigation;
  • Community engagement and lighting design;
  • Outdoor lighting and wellbeing;
  • Energy-efficient lighting solutions;
  • Economic and environmental impact assessment of outdoor lighting;
  • Lighting sustainability metrics.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.
