Dear Colleagues,
It is with great enthusiasm that we announce a forthcoming Special Issue of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease, titled "Towards Control and Elimination of Human Schistosomiasis: Diagnosis, Epidemiology, and Intervention”. To expedite the progress towards the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, WHO released its second strategic plan for NTDs in 2021. This roadmap outlines explicit objectives, including the elimination of schistosomiasis as a public health concern in all countries where it is endemic and aims to halt its transmission in select nations by 2030.
The primary focus of this Special Issue is to identify and present scientific evidence that is applicable to the current stage of combating schistosomiasis. Additionally, the aim is to foster international cooperation and exchange, recognizing the collective effort required to overcome this public health challenge.
With great anticipation, we look forward to showcasing the latest research and advancing knowledge in the field of schistosomiasis control and elimination. Together, we can make a significant impact in the global fight against this debilitating disease.
Scope and Interests:
This Special Issue seeks to cover a broad range of topics, including but not limited to the following:
- Innovative Diagnostic Techniques: emphasizing advances in detecting schistosomiasis, including molecular, immunological and imaging techniques.
- Epidemiological Studies: contributions that map the current prevalence and distribution of schistosomiasis, analyze risk factors, and assess the impact of environmental and socio-economic factors.
- Intervention Strategies: research on new and existing intervention methods, including drug therapies, vaccine development and public health approaches.
- Interdisciplinary Approaches: articles that explore the intersection of schistosomiasis with other fields, such as genomics, ecology or health economics.
- Policy and Implementation: studies focusing on the effectiveness of current policies and the challenges in implementing schistosomiasis control programs.
We look forward to your valuable contributions that will undoubtedly play a crucial role in advancing our understanding and the control of human schistosomiasis.
