Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Teleparallel gravity (TG) is an increasingly popular modified theory of gravity in the literature with many works on the topic being published and numerous presentations being given at conferences. TG re-envisions general relativity (GR) by replacing curvature with torsion through an exchange of the curvature-based connection with its torsional analogue. Due to a naturally lower-order nature of teleparallel theories, TG produces a large number of additional novel modified theories of gravity that do not feature in curvature-based models of gravity. Thus, it opens a new window on the plethora of gravitational theories that can be constructed.

Modified theories of gravity offer different avenues in which the pressing observational and theoretical challenges of modern cosmology and astrophysics can be met using a diverse range of possible descriptions of gravity. While less studied in the literature, teleparallel theories offer interesting perspectives on the various fundamental, astrophysical and cosmological problems that have come to the fore in recent decades. In this vein, TG contains an interesting phenomenology that cannot be reproduced in curvature-based gravity models. To this end, more work is needed to elucidate the l plethora of predictions within this range of theories.

TG produces a much wider range of second-order theories of gravity since it is naturally lower-order. This opens the possibility of a much wider range of models that can be probed both analytically and using numerically accessible methods. In this vein, there is a wealth of possible models that may be able to successfully confront the challenges of modern gravitational theories.

In this Topical Collection, we invite all works related to TG that tackle these problems. TG offers many possible avenues to explore both well-known and new problems using novel approaches to gravity.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Universe is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
