Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript sensors-2127740 has reviewed the recent advances in optical fiber sensors working at the dispersion tuning point, including fiber couplers, fiber gratings, and interferometers. The operation principle of the DTP fiber-optic devices has been discussed.

However, the authors should pay more attention to the sensing applications using the DTP fiber-optic devices. For instance, the DTP-based LPFGs and tapered optical fibers, as a typical DTP fiber-optic device, have been widely reported for sensing in the literature.

Reviewer 2 Report

The current manuscript provides a comprehensive survey on the fiber optic sensor focused on DTP applications. Authors have covered all aspects including fundamentals, current research and as well as future opportunities. I have just a comment about figure 5: It would be nice, if authors can show this in 2D structure or straight fiber (instead of showing to an angle). The readers can understand easily.

Apart from this, I recommend acceptance after the modification mentioned above.

Ultrasensitive optical fiber sensors working at dispersion turning point: review

The authors present a review about Ultrasensitive optical fiber sensors working at dispersion turning point

This is a well-written and structured manuscript. In this manuscript there are the potentialities to publications in Sensors but the paper has needed some important specification and reviews.

A review must contain an overview of the point to be developed, therefore the work must include several works present in the literature that take into account the design, construction and testing of ultrasensitive fiber optic sensors.

In this regard, it is really useful to introduce the new line that is leading to the creation of innovative fiber optic sensors called La-on-Fiber

- 2.2. fiber grating    replace with     2.2. Fiber grating

Considering the LPG topic, there are several papers about it.

The authors introduced the concept of ultrasensitive LPGs very well considering TAP-LPGs but did not consider a second strategy with coated LPGs.

In particular, the authors have be adding more reference about the LPG for the detection of Thyroglobulin based on LPG coated (aPS) and class C β-lactamases based on LPG coated (aPS and PMMA).

The authors introduced the concept of FBG but did not consider the Tilted Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs).

These integrations can enrich the table 1.

In general, in the review an important point to be included is the Lab-on-Fiber concept in order to open the view toward an optrode medical device.
