The Induction of Adventitious Roots Regeneration before Transplanting Rootless Ficus elastica Heritage Tree
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The paper falls in the scope of the journal. It is presenting research on the possibility of transplanting Ficus elastica heritage tree rootless and then induce rooting of it with various treatments applied on its aerial roots of various diameter.
They showed that cutting off or girdling young and vigorous aerial roots could induce and grow a sufficient number of adventitious roots before transplanting. In this way a rootless F. elastica heritage tree survived transplant shock and settle into a new habitat successfully.
It gives interesting information.
Introduction includes extended information about adventitious root induction process that is not necessary because the present work does not investigate this process. Also there is no need to give references about how rooting ability is measured
In the treatment “2000 mg·L−1 IBA + NAA (2NB)” it is not clear what is the IBA and what the NAA concentration.
In page 5 ….“Root numbers and root lengths were recorded as the maximum of the five measurement classes: 0 for ??????, 5 for (number between 1–5), 10 for (number between 6–10), 20 for (number between 11–20), and 30 for (number >21).
Table 1, 2, and 3……subtitle:
xRD sizes: RD I (RD less than 2 cm), RD II (RD 2 to 4.3 cm), RD III (4.3 to 22 cm), and RD IV (larger than 22 cm). y Auxin solutions: control group sprayed water onto to the wounds; 2NB: 2000 mg·L−1 IBA + NAA; 2B: ???????????mg·L−1 IBA; 4B: 4000 mg·L−1 IBA. z WM: CF, we cut off the aerial roots; GD, we used a knife to girdle the aerial roots deep into the xylem; RP, we used a knife to incise a rectangular window on the surface of the prop roots of 4 × 2 cm deep into the xylem, then peeled off the skin of the window.
