Motivations and Trade-Offs for Sustainability in Family Forestry and Tourism Firms: A Cross-National Survey
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The manuscript is clearly written, with an elaborate methodology and the use of an adequate connection to the current state of knowledge. The weakness is the relatively small number of respondents, which should be considered more in the discussion. A more precise description of the focus of the tourism companies involved in the research would also be appropriate. Tourism is a very differentiated sector - are it mainly travel agencies?
Formal comments:
(see: Kim et al., [6] and Berrone et al., [5]) I propose to simplify in line with the rest of the text on

As Lamb & Butler [23] suggested, rather than stewardship theory, “multiple agency theory is in play [in family firms, where] … different principals have different goals, and even different agents have different goals, in particular when it comes to CSR [corporate social responsibility] outcomes” (2018, p. 1400).

* Thank you. We now acknowledge the relatively small sample size in the revised manuscript (lines 269=270, "while this is a relatively small sample size it represents novel insight into a difficult to access population"). We also define tourism firms (lines 53-54, "tourism (i.e. restaurant, accommodation and tour operators) sectors").

* This is now addressed: lines 76-79.
Reviewer 2 Report
The paper presented is correct in structure and presentation. It analyzes interesting concepts in business sectors and countries not yet widely discussed.
Therefore, it is a conventional work in its format, interesting the concepts treated and correctly carried out.
It would only be necessary to review some errata in the text, but it is almost an editing issue.
