Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear author, congratulations for the work done. Very interesting. However, I would like to make the following recommendations:

Abstract

The abstract should contain each of the requested sections.

Keywords:

It is recommended that the keywords do not appear in the title, as this will multiply the search by researchers.

Introduction

It presents the general idea of the research with an adequate and updated theoretical framework.

2. Materials and Method

2.1. Participants

2.2. Instrument

I would value adding the final questionnaire as an Appendix. It makes it easier for readers to understand the research.

2.3. Procedure

2.4. Statistical analysis

2.4.1. Construct validity

2.4.2. Multigroup analysis

Well developed.

Results

3.1. Preliminary analysis

3.2. Construct validity

Very well presented.

Discussion and conclusions

4.1. Construct validity

4.2. Multigroup analysis

4.3. Practice applications

4.4. Limitations and future research

5. Conclusions

Well presented by the authors.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear authors,

Congratulations on your work, it is very interesting and well written, and formulated. For this reason, I am going to recommend to the editor publish it after minor changes. Below you will find my recommendations:

In lines 328-33:

"Another possible limitation of the research is related to sociodemographic data, since the MenPas platform form collects the type of sport performed openly. Thus, users write an activity such as walking or going to the gym, making the assignment of the type of sport or its intensity difficult. This could be a suggestion for the improvement of the platform and its form by changing the option from open question to a choice question".

I would recommend you to reformulate this part for a better understanding.

In line 31 you state:

Motivation is relevant in areas such as education, sport or work [1- 7].

Even when you explain this a aftermore, I would recommend you to deepen a little more into this.

Best regards,

Reviewer

General comment: The article has an interesting theme, but some points need to be improved and better explained in the article. Questions related to these doubts are linked below.

Comment: In the introduction, the authors make clear the advantages of the online assessment of the questionnaire. But should they warn of possible risks, for example, problems of interpretation in any of the questions? How could this be resolved, if any participant has doubts about one of the questions?

Comment: In the methods, make clear how the participants were selected. Through social media, apps, posters in sports clubs?

“The PMCSQ-2 (Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire) [3, 10] is a 133 questionnaire that assess the athletes’ perception of the motivational climate created by 134 the coach”.

Comment: If this is a questionnaire for athletes, what is the motivation for verifying the validity of this instrument in the "normal population"?

Comment: Considering that the authors mention analyzing the reliability and validity, it is not clear if the participants answered the questionnaire more than once and if so, what interval was adopted between the answers.

Comment: The statistic seems confusing to me. Important agreement information such as Kappa index or intraclass correlation coefficient is missing. Bland Altman plot measurements could also help to visually improve the results.

Comment: In the discussion is it necessary to clarify how problems regarding the interpretation of the questions in the questionnaire can be resolved?

Comment: The discussion failed to discuss whether the fact that the sample had a large percentage of women may have influenced the results. Another aspect that needs to be discussed is why the acceptance of women in these types of studies is greater than that of men.

Comment: After the limitations paragraph, insert the strengths of the study.
