Reviewer 2 Report

This paper seeks to implement a LC-MS metabolomic approach in order to elucidate significant metabolites/pathways related to ‘Qiuhong’ drought tolerance/resistance and leaf coloration. The paper is extremely well-written and the results well-documented and explained. Minor issues need to be addressed before being considered for publication.

1) Line 92: Please rephrase. Metabolomics is not a biotechnological tool. It's a set of analytical instrumental techniques and informatics/statistics in order to elucidate critical secondary metabolites not only in plants (also in biological samples, foods, etc.), which finds wide application in biotechnology, among other fields.

2) Line 118-120: Did the authors chose as control , the plant that was drought the longest (30 days) and then was re-watered and not a 'fresh' plant, which have not undergone any process? If not so, please make it clear in that section.

3) Line 160: Please add ''column temperature at 40 oC''

4) Line 138: Using GC-MS or LC-MS? Please correct it or provide info regarding the GC-MS in case it was implemented.
