Oxidation Behavior of Intermetallic Phase and Its Contribution to the Oxidation Resistance in Fe-Cr-Zr Ferritic Alloy
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The manuscript by S. Chen and L. Rong is a solid study of the oxidation of Fe-Cr-Zr alloy at high temperatures. The results include careful XRD, SEM, and TEM measurements, which reveal the oxidation behavior of Fe-Cr-Zr in comparison with other commercial alloys. This study will be interesting for the readers of Metals after minor imrovements.
- Introduction and throughout the text: “laves phases” should be “Laves phases”.
- Page 6: Please, explain the OM abbreviation. Also, the SAED abbreviation on page 3 is given without explanation. The same is true for “BSE”.
- Page 8. The authors state that the layer of magnetite Fe3O4 is formed as a result of oxidation under the oxygen-saturated Pb-Bi eutectic. The presence of Fe3O4 should be confirmed either by XRD or SAED measurements to make such a conclusion.
- Page 9. Comment: I wouldn’t so rely on the EDS results to use them in calculations of compositions of the partially oxidized phases. Oxygen is a light element. EDS gives large uncertainty in the quantity of oxygen.

In The submitted paper “Oxidation behavior of intermetallic phase and its contribution to the oxidation resistance in Fe-Cr-Zr ferritic alloy” the authors presents an interesting study. The paper could be accepted after some corrections.
Abstract: .....Pb-Bi eutectic separately
Reviewer: Please add: “Pb-Bi eutectic that is used in an advanced nuclear reactor”.
Also in the introduction “Pb-Bi eutectic” role and “advanced nuclear reactor” should be explained in more detail.
