The manuscript is a review article.

The issue of vibration control strategies in magnetorheological materials-based systems is investigated.

The use of popular adaptive control strategies is evidenced by using keywords based on the Scopus database.

The manuscript contributes to mapping the control strategies used in MR materials in various applications.

It is noted that there are no examples for the considered applications  and equations of the controllers. Some numerical example for the various considered applications could increase the readibility of the paper.

It is a correct scientific work about the application of magnetorheological materials in actuators for the control of vibratory systems. It is a review. Thus, there are so many references (including modern references).

I recommend the publication after minor revision.

Comments:

 

a)       The results and discussion section should be improved. This section cannot be a description of a treemap and a trend mapping of topics.

 

b)      Future perspectives should be clearly defined and remarked. I never recommend general sentences.

 

 

c)       It is impossible to read the information given in the figure 18.

 

d)      Copyright permission information should be obtained and remarked in all the graphs.

fig1: the box "module" is not explained. This box is needed to compute the desired MR damper current based on the desired semi-active control force. This must be explained in the text.

fig.1: it is important to mention that the control box also includes the clipping of the active desired control force to obtain the semi-active desired control force as MR dampers can only excert dissipative (=semi-active) forces

fig. 6(a, b): both control schemes are wrong as the clipping of the active desired control forces; LQG and LQR output general, i.e., active and dissipative desired control forces, so, the active desired control forces need to be set to zero (so-called clipping) as MR dampers cannot track active desired control forces.

The added text on MR dampers used for controlled stay cable damping needs to be placed under the title "Flexible Structures" as a cable is a flexible structure. The section "Flexible Structures" can then be split into a first subsection where controlled MR dampers are used as local dampers (as for stay cable damping) and a second subsection where MR dampers are used to control frequency and damping of vibration absorbers.
