Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript is well-structured, logically coherent and well-reasoned. My only suggestion is to include English translations of the Latin texts in brackets. Religions is a journal with a global audience; one should not assume that all readers are proficient in Latin.

Author Response

Many thanks for your review and helpful suggestion. English translations of the Latin texts were provided. Important technical terms were left in Latin in brackets.

Reviewer 2 Report

This is an excellent article, well research and argued. My major concern is who the intended readers are for this article. Is this just for specialists/academics or the general reader. The reason why I ask is that it would be helpful for the general reader to have most, if not all, the Latin sentences and phrases translated, so that the readers will know how the author is translating these words and phrases, and that the readers will not have to translate these words on their own.

Author Response

Many thanks for your review and helpful comments. The intended readers are academics but I have provided English translations of the Latin texts to reach a larger audience. Important technical terms were left in Latin in brackets.
