I am honored to take part in the review process of this article. It is a so relevant question in the modern literature.

Reviewer 3 Report
The manuscript is very interesting, reviewing the state-of-the-art of protruding nanostructured surfaces and their antimicrobial/osteogenic properties, with applications in titanium implants improvement. Different nanofabrication methods and the mechanisms of action on various microorganisms are presented. Overall, the manuscript is well written and well organized, in a good English style.
However, minor revision should be made:
- Some references were not recognized by the software used and appear as errors in the manuscript (lines 117, 146, 151, 157, 162, 166, 172, 211, 213, 303, 336, 358, 392).
- A reference is needed for line 113-114 and 318-319.
- Please explain what the abbreviations mean in lines 180, 252, 265, 269, 275.
- Line 322: “in vivo” should be italicized.
- A reference to each figure should be also introduced in text explaining what it represents and the source of the figure must be explicitly mentioned.

Please follow the next indications to enhance your manuscript:
Improve the background information used in the introduction and discussion
Introduction
line 44 “Implant failures are” please add the reference.
Line 55 This is an important issue in implantology please add more information on the influence of temperature modifications induced during implant site preparation and implant failure.
Line 79 Please add other strategy for control of bacterial adhesion, for example anatase, nanocoating with hydrosilver etc..
Line 329 I suggest to add more information on the influence of the thermal treatment for address a better osseointegration.
