Offline Fault Diagnosis for 2-Level Inverter: Short-Circuit and Open-Circuit Detection
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThis paper presents a fault diagnosis scheme for short-circuit and open-circuit states of a two-level inverter. The detection of short circuit faults of power semiconductor devices is based on the measurement of the magnitude of the current, while the detection of open circuit faults is based on a comparison of current phase angle with off-line look-up table values. The validity of the fault diagnosis method is verified by simulation and experimental setup.
The following comments can be taken into consideration to improve the quality of the paper:
1- A list of abbreviations shall be added (before the references).
2- A list of symbols shall be added (before the references).
3- Some up-to-date related references should be included in the reference list.
4- Parameters of the experimental setup (including ratings of motor and power transistors) should be summarized in a table.
5- Simulation software should be indicated and simulation parameters as well.
6- The waveforms of motor currents in the stationary reference frame (i_alfa, i_beta) should be drawn for at least one fault condition of a short circuit of any power transistor.
7- Also, in the case of open circuit condition of any power transistor, the motor terminal voltages and phase angle of the currents should be plotted.
8- Please, provide information about the execution time of the proposed algorithm. i.e., the detection time to determine open circuit or short circuit faults.
9- What is the possibility of implementing the algorithm in real-time instead of offline detection?
10- Experimental results shown in Fig. 10 need to be clarified for the readers.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThe manuscript presented an approach for off-line fault diagnosis of switching devices during SC and OC. However, there are plenty of issues to be addressed such as follows to be reconsidered for reviewing:
1- In line 78, the synchronization angle Θe and the angle θe are confusing. Please rigorously clarify them.
2- In line 82, does the Vs2 equal V2 based on Fig. 2?
3- In line 119, what does the DESAT mean?! You need to first determine the full abbreviation and then use it.
4- There are no simulation results (you claimed in the Abstract)?!
5- There is not any information about the electric circuit and controller variables and parameters! you need to list all parameters that are used for the experiment and simulation.
6- You must add a Discussion section to fully explain the system's performance and its comparison to the other similar approaches.
7- The conclusion is not supported by the research outcomes and it mostly reflects the abstract.
8- There are a lot of relevant approaches/references which are recently published, and you need to refer to them to enrich your methodology.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThis paper introduces a fault diagnosis approach for identifying power switch faults during offline status. The short-circuit diagnosis method can detect power switch faults even in situations involving multiple switch failures. To mitigate diagnostic inaccuracies caused by angle errors and current noise, an iterative open fault diagnosis algorithm is put forth. Subsequently, the paper will discuss and experiment with the method under various load conditions during operation.
I have the following questions and comments:
- How does load affect the response to short circuit effects?
- All figures should be cited in the main text as "Figure 1".
- Lines 160-161: “The open circuit diagnosis method is proposed through voltage vector injection as shown in Fig.1.” should be “…vector injection, as shown in Figure 1.”
- Line 167 – in Figure 6.
Lines 208-209: "fig.9(a) represents the inverter used in the experiment, and is an inverter used in a 20kW small electric vehicle." It should be, for example, "Figure 9(a) shows the inverter that was used in the experiment. It is an inverter used in a 20kW small electric vehicle."
Minor editing of English language required to meet Journal requirements.

Thank you for the review to improve the quality of the paper. I think the first review was lacking in many of the things you mentioned in the previous review. We have tried to improve the quality of the paper by fully reflecting the points you pointed out.
