High Field Single- to Few-Cycle THz Generation with Lithium Niobate
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The well-written work shows the most important stages of the evolution of high field single or few-cycle THz generation setups based on LN. The paper focuses basically on the tilted-pulse-front and Cherenkov-type methods. The goal of improving the THz energy/field is motivated by several applications mentioned in the introduction.
The work is a review-like paper that will be probably useful for scientists working in this field.
Some typographic errors:

page 2, line 62 (3THz)
page 7, line 291 (50mJ/cm2)
page 8, line 296 (1.4mJ)
page 8, line 338 (1kHz)
In Section 3 both groove spacing (d) and groove density (g) are used. It would be practical to decide between them.
Finally, some very new imaging-less solutions should be also mentioned:

My overall impression is very positive on this paper.

Dear Authors,
In my opinion the manuscript present a very attractive overview of the THz pulse generation methods and will be interesting for the readers of Photonics. My recommendation is “Accept after minor revision” due to low quality of the figures. They suffered from low resolution. Some letters are small and blurred and are hard to read. It is highly recommended to provide figures with better quality.

This is a review paper about THz generation using LN. The authors summarized different technologies. There are some problems.
- Most of the references are published before 2019, except [16][21][50]. The authors should do some research about the latest development.
- The figures are all blurry with low resolutions, and some figures did not obtain reprint permissions
- The authors may list a table to summarize all the technologies with their advantages and disadvantages.
- The meaning of "single- to few- cycle" should be explained in the introduction part.
- Whether the author’s research group has made innovative breakthroughs in this research field, and can the authors add some content about this?
