Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
An increase in demand for poultry and poultry products has resulted in continuous adaptations and advancements in production systems. The rise in global demand for healthy and affordable protein sources is accompanied by production increases to meet said demand, in turn triggering a rise in the demand for fresh-water. Water is needed in nearly all aspects of poultry production, including growing crops for feed ingredients, poultry house cooling, and water intake for poultry production and processing. Unfortunately, fresh-water is a limited resource, with many countries currently experiencing periods of water scarcity and threats of increased droughts forecasted throughout the world. Finding ways to improve water usage in the poultry industry through management, improved processing techniques, and genetic selection is imperative to creating a sustainable future in terms of water.
This Special Issue focuses on poultry production practices that improve water use efficiency through genetic selection, farm management, nutrition, and processing. This issue in Farm Animal Production will encompass a multi-species approach focusing on broiler, laying hen, and turkey production. All types of articles are welcome, covering a wide array of topics, including management, processing, and genetic selection.
