Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Offshore wind technologies have gained strong notoriety in the past decade, as they have been shown to operate reliably and with capacity factors that surpass those registered on onshore farms. Moreover, forecasts for capacity additions up to 2030 indicate that the current worldwide capacity will likely grow tenfold. However, offshore wind still faces many challenges, which are usually related with the elevated costs of these technologies. Although solutions for shallow depths are now reaching competitive prices, new farms will need to go to deeper waters, which will require the use of innovative solutions, such as floating platforms. As such, the economical exploitation of offshore wind in deeper waters pushes the boundaries of the available technology, installation, operation, and maintenance solutions and challenges the current environments of innovation.
The Guest Editors invite researchers to submit research related but not limited to the following topics (including review papers):
- Offshore wind cost reduction drivers;
- Technoeconomic studies of offshore wind implementation;
- Decisions on life extension and repowering;
- Structural evaluation of new concepts for offshore wind;
- Structural validation of offshore wind structures and moorings;
- Development of hybrid systems (p.e. offshore wind + hydrogen);
- Reliability and maintenance procedures of offshore wind;
- Environmental impacts of offshore wind farms.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
