Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Biologically active compounds are found in plants and certain foods (whole grains, fruits, oils, nuts and vegetables). Due to their antioxidant activity, they promote good health in living organisms by blocking the production of reactive oxygen species and are being studied for the prevention of many diseases (e.g., heart disease, cancer and other chronic diseases). The synthesis of biologically active compounds is challenging because of their unique and complex structure, but it is of utmost importance for the development of novel therapeutic agents in the biomedical sciences. Different analytical techniques are being used for the analysis of biologically active compounds (GC, HPLC, HPLC/MS, fluorescence, FTIR, XRD, NMR etc.). However, it was determined that sample preparation is the key step for the development of analytical procedures. Recent studies have shown that biologically active compounds can be detected with (bio)chemical and electrochemical sensors and they can affect the mineralization process which increases the interest in further studies and enables an interdisciplinary approach.

This Special Issue entitled “Biologically Active Compounds” aims to highlight the advanced research in the field of biologically active compounds; including synthesis (with special emphasis on green synthesis), characterization techniques, their application (in pharmaceutical, biomedical area as medicines, inhibitors or promotors of individual processes, as fungicides, herbicides and insecticides in the food industry etc.) and novel research trends. We kindly invite you to contribute to this Special Issue. Short communications, review articles and full-size research papers are all welcome.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Crystals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
