Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The study of the pathology of the placenta has an ever-increasing role in the definition of gestational disease. The introduction of the Amsterdam Placental Workshop Consensus Statement has greatly contributed to establishing common clinico-pathological ground, thus working towards the standardization of sampling techniques and diagnostic criteria. In this scenario featuring improvements in prenatal diagnostic techniques and a more accurate pathological examination, the study of the physiopathology of the placenta and developmental biology is gaining increasing attention and importance both as a research field and a practical challenge in the pathologist’s daily routine.

For this Special Issue, we invite investigators from different disciplines to contribute original research articles and reviews addressing the issues of placental diagnostic pathology, physiopathology and developmental biology.

The aim of this Special Issue is to enhance our knowledge and understanding of the clinical and pathological findings underlying gestational disease, and to facilitate the development of diagnostic and therapeutical techniques in the future.
