Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The study of mental health and well-being in relevant developmental stages has been receiving more attention in recent years. Previous studies show that mental disorders and psychological difficulties may arise during childhood and adolescence. In this regard, the study of mental health and subjective well-being during adolescence, in addition to other psychological measures, could be relevant with the aim to prevent other severe pathologies. Therefore, studies including phenotypically characterized samples of children and adolescents before they develop clinical problems are still needed in order to integrate different measures, including genetic, brain, psychometric, and neurobehavioral markers, that may help us to articulate prophylactic and more effective interventions. Despite this well-established framework, there is a lack of studies analyzing mental health and related phenomena in targeted populations of children and teenagers. The study of psychological and mental health difficulties, brain–behavior phenotypes, subjective well-being, and other psychological variables in different developmental stages can contribute to detecting course characteristics related to psychological vulnerability and, thus, to further enhancing our comprehension of these aspects in order to prevent and provide tools for staging and intervention.
This Special Issue focuses on psychological aspects related to children, teenagers, and young adults. This Special Issue seeks research papers on various aspects of mental health development. We especially encourage the submission of interdisciplinary work and multicountry collaborative research. We also encourage the submission of health systems and health policy-related manuscripts that focus on issues related to mental health in adolescence in the environment and the neurocognitive aspect related to it. We welcome original research papers using different study designs as well as systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
