Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of IJERPH, a peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes manuscripts in the interdisciplinary area of environmental health sciences and public health, we are organizing a Special Issue about physical activity and sedentary behaviors in children and youths, which will offer an opportunity to publish high-quality multidisciplinary research: original articles, critical reviews, research notes, and short communications that may deepen our understanding of the role of physical activity.
The lack of physical activity in children and youths disrupts proper physical, mental, and social growth and development and is also a major risk factor for noncommunicable diseases, poor HRQL, and premature mortality. Based on recommendations guiding physical activity and sedentary behaviors in children and adolescents, we are interested in papers analyzing the wide context of determinants of these behaviors, as well as their reciprocal relationships.
For this Special Issue in IJERPH, we especially welcome studies carried out in children/youth population involving the following topics:
- Physical activity/sedentary behavior assessment and surveillance in the context of recommendations;
- Physical activity/sedentary behaviors and mental health;
- Psychosocial correlates of physical activity and sedentary behaviors;
- Physical literacy studies;
- Neighborhood environment—built and social, as factors influencing choices leading to physical activity/sedentary behaviors;
- Gross motor skill development;
- The association between gross motor skills and physical activity/sedentary behaviors;
- Screen- and sitting time correlates;
- Active/passive transportation and physical activity levels;
- The role of sleep duration and sleep behaviors in children and adolescents’ energy expenditure behaviors.
