Dear Colleagues,
Retinoic acid (RA) is a derivative of vitamin A that plays many key roles in the development and ageing of the body in multiple organs, including the skin and the brain, and it is involved regulating cell division, growth, and reproduction. RA and the retinoids uniquely display both genomic and non-genomic effects by binding to RAR, RXR and ROR receptor subtypes. They also possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and pro-autophagy properties. Synthetic retinoids can help with age-related skin conditions and may also help with age-related cognitive decline and a range of age-related diseases. This themed volume brings us up-to-date on the state-of-play with understanding retinoid molecular signalling and the potential for rational therapeutics for a range of age-related diseases.
