Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Composite magnetoelectric materials have unique properties due to the relationship between the magnetic and electrical subsystems. The mechanical interaction between the magnetostrictive and piezoelectric phases gives rise to the magnetoelectric effect. When a sample is placed in a magnetic field, an electric field arises, which leads to the appearance of an electrical voltage between the plates, and vice versa; when a sample is placed in an electric field, a change in magnetization occurs. The magnitude of the magnetoelectric interaction in composite magnetostrictive–piezoelectric materials is several orders of magnitude greater than in single-phase materials, which opens up wide opportunities for the creation of devices based on it, such as highly sensitive magnetic field sensors, inductors tunable by an electric field, microwave phase shifters, gyrators, power splitters, etc.

Previously, studies have been carried out on the magnetoelectric interaction in various types of composites consisting of a variety of ferromagnetic and ferroelectric phases involved, such as bulk composites as well as thick-film or thin-film layered structures and nanocomposites in the form of nanopillars in a host matrix, core–shell particles, and core–shell nanofibers. Despite the large amount of research, the question of increasing the efficiency of the ME conversion remains fundamental at present. Composite magnetoelectric materials are an interdisciplinary field of research and represent a vast field for researchers in the fields of physics, chemistry, materials science, elasticity theory, and engineering, which is in line with the scope of the Magnetochemistry journal. This Special Issue, “Composite Magnetoelectric Materials”, focuses on recent advances in the field of composite magnetoelectric materials.

We are providing a platform for new, high-quality research, both experimental and theoretical, through a Special Issue of the open access journal Magnetochemistry.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Magnetochemistry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
