Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

One of the most spectacular phenomena in chemistry is spin crossover (SC), when a molecule undergoes a change in spin state from a low spin (LS) to high spin (HS). This change is affected by fluctuations in temperature, pressure and the presence of small guest molecules. Although this has been observed for first-row d4 –d7 transition-metal ions, the majority of reported systems involve iron(II) and iron(III). SC has been studied in regard to magnetic susceptibility and structural, theoretical, spectroscopic (IR, NMR, UV-vis, ESR, Mossbauer) and structural aspects. Of particular importance are complexes that exhibit SC near room temperature with hysteresis. Such systems are ideal candidates for molecular switches, memory storage devices, medical imaging and other material applications. We welcome contributions presenting novel SC ligand systems, polynuclear SC complexes, applications of new theoretical and spectroscopic methods to the study of SC systems and new developments in potential applications.
