Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Fabrication, characterization and application of polymeric nanocomposites are today an area of increasing scientific as well as technical interest. Adding variable of percentages nano sized materials into a polymer most often enhances the polymer’s property and these polymeric nanocomposites exhibit superior properties as compared to micro- or macrocomposites. Owing to the improved combinations of electrical, mechanical and thermal properties of nanocomposites, they are used in a wide array of electronic applications. Polymeric nanocomposites can be synthesized for various applications with proper selection of matrix, nano reinforcement material, synthesis methods and surface modification of either the reinforcement or the polymer. Many polymeric nanocomposites-based products have been commercialized. For example, flexible sensors fabricated with polymeric nanocomposites have been attached to a person along with the embedded system to monitor a parameter and transfer significant data to the monitoring unit for further analyses.

This Special Issue aims to underscore the polymeric nanocomposites used for designing a particular system, including the network protocols and different types of activities being monitored and highlight the various types and unique properties of polymeric nanocomposites, along with specific examples of their applications in electronic sensors. We hope that this Special Issue will provide fundamental knowledge of using polymeric nanocomposites in flexible sensor technologies.

This Special Issue invites original papers and reviews reporting on the following areas:

  • Preparation, formation, and synthesis of polymer nanocomposites;
  • Physical and chemical properties of nanostructured polymers;
  • Fabrication methods of the polymeric nanocomposites for biosensors;
  • Chemical and physical surface modification of polymeric nanocomposites;
  • Next-generation polymeric nanocomposites-based flexible sensor;
  • Integration process of polymeric nanocomposites-based biosensors into smart devices and their point-of-care test;
  • Polymer nanocomposites in future biomedical application;
  • Multi-functional polymer-based nanocomposites;
  • Advanced polymer composites for electrical applications.

Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
