Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The possibilities and directions for the use of wood in the context of modern technology are determined by its joining and finishing techniques. Glue joints take priority over known connections, while lacquer products dominate surface finishing. They are decisive for the qualities of use and durability. Both bonding agents and paint products have evolved considerably in response to increasing ecological and economic requirements.

In the past, conventional lacquer coatings and adhesives often contained chemicals that posed a risk to human health and the environment. However, with increasing awareness of sustainability, there is a growing demand for environmentally friendly and functional products. In this respect, efforts are being made to implement, among other things, technologies that reduce the content and emission of toxic components, alternative raw materials, and processes with less environmental impact. New products are not only to be environmentally friendly but also to provide excellent durability and resistance to various factors.

In addition, using sustainable coatings and adhesives is expected to contribute to a healthier indoor environment by reducing volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

Ongoing advances in formulation and application technology, realized in sustainable development, should go hand in hand with a concern for the durability and esthetics of final products in various areas of the wood industry.

This Special Issue will be a forum for exchanging innovative research on functional wood coatings and adhesives. We invite you to submit a manuscript related to this Special Issue. Full papers and reviews are all welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
