Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Laparoscopic surgery has revolutionized the field of colorectal surgery, particularly in the management of colon cancer. This minimally invasive technique offers significant advantages over traditional open surgery, including reduced postoperative pain, shorter recovery times, and improved cosmetic outcomes. As colon cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality worldwide, optimizing surgical approaches is crucial for improving patient outcomes and enhancing quality of life.

The scientific background supporting laparoscopic surgery in colon cancer is grounded in a wealth of research demonstrating its efficacy and safety. Numerous studies have highlighted the benefits of laparoscopic techniques in reducing perioperative complications, facilitating earlier discharge, and maintaining oncological principles comparable to those of open surgery. Furthermore, advancements in laparoscopic technology, including improved imaging and instrumentation, have further enhanced the precision and feasibility of these procedures. Despite these advancements, ongoing research is essential to address challenges such as long-term oncological outcomes, cost-effectiveness, and the application of laparoscopic techniques in complex cases.

The aim of this Special Issue is to provide a comprehensive overview of current advancements, clinical applications, and emerging techniques in laparoscopic surgery for colon cancer. By consolidating recent research findings, innovative practices, and expert opinions, this issue seeks to inform and guide both clinical practitioners and researchers in the field.

The subject of this Special Issue aligns seamlessly with the journal's commitment to advancing surgical knowledge and improving patient care through rigorous scientific inquiry. It is our hope that this collection of articles will stimulate further research, foster clinical discussions, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of laparoscopic techniques in the management of colon cancer.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Laparoscopy in treatment of colorectal cancer;
  • OS and DFS after laparoscopy for colorectal cancer in comparison to open surgery;
  • Oncological results in terms of lymph node yield and free margins in laparoscopy for colorectal cancer;
  • Learning curve in laparoscopy for colorectal cancer;
  • Robotic surgery vs. laparoscopy in the treatment of colorectal cancer.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs).
