Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing, as a promising analytical technique based on the combination of photoirradiation with electrochemical detection, and thus possessing merits of both electrochemical and optical strategies, has attracted considerable attention due to its high sensitivity, good selectivity and easy miniaturization. Generally, PEC sensing is conducted by recording the changed photocurrent responses caused by the interaction between the photoelectrode and target analytes, and the sensitivity of PEC analysis is mainly decided by the intensity of the photocurrent signal. However, the spontaneous, rapid recombination of electrons and holes can reduce the photocurrent. Therefore, to explore novel PEC sensing platforms for the efficient separation of electron–hole pairs and to suppress their recombination is of great significance to improve the performance of PEC sensing. |To date, the development of this technology has brought significant improvements, and a variety of novel PEC proposals have been emerged to detect targets in the fields of food analysis, environmental monitoring, and clinical diagnosis. It is believed that PEC-sensing platforms with good performance can provide a meaningful path to the rapid, effective, and reliable detection of different analytes. Accordingly, this Special Issue seeks to showcase research papers, short communications, and review articles that focus on developing novel methodologies and strategies for the PEC-sensing platform, featuring efficient signal amplification element for the sensing interface and application in various research areas.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Micromachines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
