Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Organic–inorganic hybrid materials, constituting both organic and inorganic compounds, are considered a promising class and potential platform for applications in different fields such as energy storage, health, catalysts, heterogeneousness, diagnosis, environment and bioactivity. These materials can be tuned by modification of the composition on the molecular scale to produce functional materials. The goal of this Special Issue is to put forward advances in organic–inorganic hybrid materials and their applications in different areas. As Guest Editors, we cordially invite you to submit a manuscript to the upcoming Special Issue titled “Advances in Organic–Inorganic Hybrid Materials”. This Special Issue will comprise original research articles, reviews and communications. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Bio-related performance;
  • Antibacterial effects;
  • Surface coloring;
  • Photoluminescence performance;
  • Catalytic performance;
  • Light-related performance.

Guest Editor

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.

Abstract
In this study, we will present an efficient and selective adsorbent for the removal of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions. The silica-based adsorbent is functionalized by 2-phenylimidazo[1,2-a] pyridine-3-carbaldehyde (SiN-imd-py) and the characterization was carried out by applying various techniques including FT-IR, SEM, TGA [...] Read more.
In this study, we will present an efficient and selective adsorbent for the removal of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions. The silica-based adsorbent is functionalized by 2-phenylimidazo[1,2-a] pyridine-3-carbaldehyde (SiN-imd-py) and the characterization was carried out by applying various techniques including FT-IR, SEM, TGA and elemental analysis. The SiN-imd-py adsorbent shows a good selectivity and high adsorption capacity towards Cu(II) and reached 100 mg/g at pH = 6 and T = 25 °C. This adsorption capacity is important compared to other similar adsorbents which are currently published. The adsorption mechanism, thermodynamics, reusability and the effect of different experimental conditions, such as contact time, pH and temperature, on the adsorption process, were also investigated. In addition, a theoretical study was carried out to understand the adsorption mechanism and the active sites of the adsorbent, as well as the stability of the complex formed and the nature of the bonds. In this study, to use a stabilized carrier, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were used as carriers and electron acceptors were added to activate the surface of AgNPs as olefin carriers. In addition, poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBAX), consisting of polyamide (hard segments) and polyether (soft segments), was investigated for the correlation of the between-segments ratio related to the stability of AgNPs and separation performance. As a result, contrary to the expectation that high permeance would be observed in PEBAX-1657/AgNPs/7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) membrane, which had a higher ratio of polyether soft segment, the PEBAX-5513/AgNPs/TCNQ membrane, which had a relatively high proportion of polyamide, showed a higher permeance without difference in selectivity. These unexpected data were attributable to the fact that the relatively abundant amount of PA groups in PEBAX-5513 was able to stabilize and positively polarize the surface of AgNPs, resulting in the stabilized and high performance of olefin separation.
