Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The emergence of new street opioids and their mixtures with other potent drugs has rendered the existing interventions and overdose prevention strategies less effective. High-potency opioids alone or in combination with novel and atypical substances have produced a multimodal respiratory depression and overdoses that are very challenging to reverse with any single agent. This new public emergency and unmet medical need require a prompt response from the research community to find an adequate pharmacological solution.
Therefore, the goal of this Special Issue is to define a landscape of the emerging interventions, pharmacological challenges, and potential synergetic approaches. Could vaccination against new street opioids be effective? Could a single opioid overdose reversal agent be effective under these circumstances? How do we bring these new therapies, especially combination therapies, from bench to bedside?
The Pharmaceuticals journal welcomes both reviews and original articles on the emerging therapies and pharmacology of the new street opioids. The manuscripts collected will be published as a Special Issue of this journal.
