Dear Colleagues,
Ultrafast fiber lasers have intensively improved the development of precise micromachining, space sensing measurement, nonlinear microscopy, advanced spectroscopy, high-power supercontinuum, terahertz generation, ultrafast scientific research, and so on. High power, high energy, and short pulse duration are the main development directions of ultrafast fiber laser sources. Meanwhile, wide spectrum, multi-wavelength and wavelength tunability, and pulse repetition rate as high as GHz are all important directions. Many methods and techniques have been developed in the past decades to produce fiber ultrafast lasers. Including fiber mode-locking like saturable absorption technology, nonlinear polarization evolution, nonlinear amplifying loop mirror, Mamyshev mode-locking, ultrafast pulse amplifying like using of cladding-pumped large-mode-area gain fiber, self-similar parabolic pulse amplification, pre-chirp managed amplification, cubic pulse amplification, gain managed pulse amplification, spatial and temporal coherent pulse combining, optical parametric chirped pulse amplification, soliton self-frequency shift, and Raman pulse amplification. All these technologies have extensively extended the parameter range of fiber ultrafast lasers.
This Special Issue, entitled “Recent Advances in Ultrafast Fiber Lasers”, will welcome basic, methodological, and applied cutting-edge research contributions, as regular and review papers. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Advanced technology of fiber mode-locking for high peak power and ultrashort pulses;
- Efficient method for ultrashort pulse amplification with high power, high energy, and ultrashort pulse duration;
- Nonlinear pulse compression, spectral broadening, and wavelength conversion like second/third harmonic generation;
- High-energy, short-pulse fiber laser systems in the deep ultraviolet (or extreme deep ultraviolet) and mid-infrared bands;
- Advanced industrial laser sources to manufacture and process different materials;
- Ultra-stabilized laser sources, frequency stabilization, and carrier-envelope phase (CEP) stabilized frequency comb;
- Ultrafast fiber laser sources for communication devices, sensors, nonlinear microscopy, etc.
